Traveling can be stressful for you and your beloved dog, but there are some things you can do to minimize the anxiety. Here are five tips to help you and your pet have a better travel experience:
1.) Help Your Pet Love Their Carrier
Do as many things as you can to help your pet love their carrier. Smile and be excited when they see it for the first time, place treats inside, play with them nearby. Every positive experience helps!
2.) Make Sure your Pet is Properly Acclimated to the Environment
Pets like to be in a comfortable place they are familiar with, so make sure to purchase your carrier well in advance of the trip. Be diligent about exposing your dog to its carrier before the trip so they're used to the environment by the time you leave for your trip.
3.) Recreate the Traveling Experience in Advance
Travel conditions could be rough, which can give your dog anxiety if they aren't used to it. Bring them on car rides in their carrier so they get used to the traveling experience.
4.) Train your Dog to Use Wee Wee Pads
If you haven't, you should train your dog to use Wee Wee Pads. A trained dog knows that they can pee wherever they see one of these. This will help if you're staying in a hotel or don't have access to an outdoor area.
