How You Can Help
In response to the devastation in western North Carolina due to the effects of Hurricane Helene - and in partnership with The Overman Group and a number of local pet rescues and shelters - all The Natural Dog and Nature's Emporium locations will be collecting items throughout October to help aid our pet and human neighbors suffering through these catastrophic losses. Many rescue shelters have lost most or all their supplies. The needs are both immediate and ongoing, so we plan to work with our partners to get the first shipment out within the week, followed by additional shipments as we accumulate items. We can also help connect you with affected shelters if you’re interested in temporarily fostering a pet. Please see below for more information on donation and fostering opportunities.
Donations
If you or someone you know feels moved to donate and would like to drop off items for pets and/or humans, here are just some examples of items that local rescues have requested that they are or will be needing:
For Pets
Water • Dog and Cat Food • Cat Litter • Paper Products
Poop Bags • Towels • Blankets • Sponges • Treats • Toys • Large Trash Bags
For Humans
Water • Paper Plates/Towels • Shelf-Stable Food/Snacks
Travel-Sized Personal Hygiene Items • Batteries
Our customers have shown time and again how much they love pets and love supporting their local community. If you have any new, spare items at home, please consider donating. For a limited time, we'll be offering 25% off any non-sale items that are designated for donation at the time of purchase (in-store only for now). Also, a number of our October monthly sales include promotions like Buy One, Get One Free. If you take advantage of these sales while shopping with us, we kindly encourage you to consider donating your free items.
Fostering
In addition to donations, we’ve heard multiple requests from shelters in various counties in western NC calling for foster care for pets while the shelters focus their efforts on cleanup and restoration. If you’re willing to provide a temporary home for a dog or cat during this time, feel free to email us at customersupport@thenaturaldogonline.com and we can provide contact information for shelters in need of your assistance. This is an incredibly helpful and hands-on way you can be involved in the relief efforts in our community.
Thank You
The mountains of NC hold a special place in the hearts of our family and staff. Sincere thanks to The Overman Group for partnering with us and YOU in helping our neighbors!
